Mystical, sensitive, fluid, and compassionate, Pisces is the twelfth and last sign of the Zodiac. The concerns of the previous signs merge in this place. Boundaries are erased and substance dissolves into a primordial soup, rich in the nutrients necessary for the next round of experience.
Pisces is a water sign and associated with the vastness of the ocean; expansive, soothing, and calm - and dangerous if one falls in. One can drown in these waters, which is a common emotional experience for those born with Sun in Pisces.
In the language of Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Pisces is allied with Sothis, another name for the star Sirius. Sirius was sacred to the ancient Egyptians and considered to be their home, the place from which they came and would return. Connection to the Star Beings is natural for those born under this sign, and they often express this association through art, music, and dance.
These natives are the dreamers of the Zodiac, psychically attuned to other realms, and in their Earth life deeply sensitive. In their compassion for the pain of the world, they can become emotionally overwhelmed by the suffering of others, often to their detriment. Learning boundaries is important for these individuals and can be challenging. Just draw a line in water and see how well that works.
Sothis is the expression of the Bodhisattva, whose keywords are Compassionate Detachment. This is the challenge for these sensitive beings – how to love deeply and yet not be personally overwhelmed by the pain of the world. This is a worthy objective for us all, and one we will have an opportunity to explore during the season of Pisces.
The Sun will remain in Pisces/Sothis until March 20.
