Theme of the Moment - Anubis, Pt 1

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

On July 22, within 17 minutes of each other, Venus turns retrograde in Leo and the Sun will enter Leo. Less than 12 hours later, Chiron turns retrograde in Aries. In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, the sign Leo and Chiron are both aligned with Anubis, the Egyptian funerary god who is the Shower of the Way.

Venus is the feminine principle and aligned with Isis. Venus describes our values; what we want to receive. Venus in Leo wants to be seen, heard, and acknowledged. This recognition can manifest through creative expression, leadership, speaking our truth – but what matters is that we feel seen, heard, and acknowledged.

In Shamanic Egyptian Astrology, Leo is aligned with Anubis in his youth. Anubis was an abandoned child, born of a sexual union between Nephthys and Osiris, husband of Nephthys’ twin sister Isis. Nephthys could not take her baby home because she knew her husband Set, the Warrior King, would kill him. So she walks out into the desert, holding Anubis close to her heart, places him on the desert floor, and walks away.

This story has a happy ending. Aunt Isis is watching. She swoops in and rescues Anubis, takes him home and raises him as her own. But the damage is done, the pain of abandonment marks Anubis. In order to become who he is meant to be – the Wayshower to the next world for newly deceased souls – he must find a way to rise above this original wound of betrayal.

Sit with this. Feel the pain of Anubis. How could she do this to him – leave him on the desert floor to – what? Die? Be killed by desert predators? A happy ending does not erase the start of the story. Abandonment is the theme of this moment. Where were you abandoned? How were you not seen, heard, acknowledged in your life?

Venus is stationary for the next five days and will be retrograde from July 22 to September 3.
