Pluto – Lord of the Underworld – will soon move into Aquarius (November 19) where it will remain for the next 20 years. In 2025, both Uranus and Neptune – the other two “generational” planets – will begin their transition into new signs: Uranus into Gemini and Neptune into Aries. By 2027 all three of these agents of change will be in new signs. Our world will be very different.
Over the last week, Mars – creative expression, war and anger – has been moving through the last degrees of Cancer. The US is a Cancer country; concerns around family, safety and stability are important to Americans. This opposition has heightened our greatest fear – that we are no longer safe in our home.
On Election Day, warrior Mars will have passed into fiery Leo, still in opposition to Pluto and still forming a Mystic Rectangle with Mercury and Uranus. Under the hard cold realities of this election, there is magic. Something new is being created.
In traditional astrology, aspects between Pluto and Mars are incendiary, associated with war, death, cruelty and aggression. In Egyptian myth, Pluto is Osiris, Lord of Regeneration whose myth revolves around his death. Mars is Set, the Warrior King, who is both murderer and protector. He kills his brother Osiris and is also the protector of Ra (the Sun) during his nightly journey through the underworld. Mars/Set is unpredictable - he is both the generous protector and also the warrior run amok.
Aspects between Pluto and Mars are not rare. And this Mars/Pluto opposition comes as Pluto is completing its 16-year transit of Capricorn, the sign of collective structure. This transit has initiated the dismantling of our established structure. The overriding question: What will replace that structure?
