Virgo New Moon; Mercury Stationary

September 14, 2023: New Moon at Virgo 21°58’, 9:40 pm EDT.

Virgo puts a lot of emphasis on the concept of purity. Purity can be defined in many ways: physically (how we care for our body), ethically (our actions – what we choose to do), mentally (how we think and what we say), and emotionally (being clear on what we feel and how we express our feelings). Virgo holds high standards – this is Nekhbet, the Crone Priestess, in Shamanic Egyptian Astrology. Virgo doesn’t always live up to their own ideas of how to be in the world. These missteps can lead to harsh judgment of themselves and others, and a tendency to worry.

This New Moon is beautifully aspected. The conjunction is at the apex of a Kite pattern – a Grand Trine attached to two sextiles. This Kite is anchored by the three outer planets – Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

There’s a lot going on in our world and the collective energy is difficult. Jupiter and Uranus are in a loose conjunction which will remain as a backdrop well into next year. Jupiter expands. In this case it is the shattering, unpredictable quality of Uranus – Wadjet in the Egyptian pantheon – that is being expanded. Both are in Taurus, sign of the Earth, and not surprisingly we are experiencing a continuing increase in Earth-related disasters. Our Mother is not pleased.

Mercury (Thoth) is stationary in Virgo, turning direct on September 15. All things Virgo are up for our consideration. A New Moon – the Dark Moon to shamanic peoples – is a natural time to go inward. T

ake time during this Dark Moon to contemplate what purity means to you. What part of you needs to clean up your act? We are being supported in our desire to do better – to be better. Our friends, family, community, and our planet – our home - deserve our very best.
